NIH Map and Best Way to get to Building 10

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE FOR VISITORS: As this is a transplant wing, please read all posted placards and signs. If you are SICK it is HIGHLY advisable that you do not visit the floor as there are many immunocompromised patients. Please constantly maintain hand-health hygeine through frequent washing at wash-stations with soap and water and with Anti-Bacterial Hand Wash that can be found in many many dispensers all over the building, including right in front of my room. Please observe these hand hygiene procedures before AND after you enter the room. Although I am on contact isolation, you DO NOT need to wear a mask and gown unless you plan on touching me. A lot. If you do feel like you may be under the weather, wearing a mask may be in YOUR best interest. Thanks for your cooperation!

  1. The Hematology/Oncology/Transplant Location is 3 NE. When you enter Building 10, the NE elevators are immediately to your left by the transportation office. Take the elevators up to the 3rd floor and you will be directly in front of 3 NE. Please ask at the front desk for the room number, or call/text/email me for the information.hatfieldfirstfloor-page-001
  2. The Transportation Office (https://www.nih.gov/about-nih/visitor-information/campus-shuttle) has shuttles to all nearby Hotels and Airports for your convenience for free. Just let them know that you are Patient FAMILY.
  3. This is the link to ALL NIH Shuttles Offered: https://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/nihshuttleservices/Pages/shuttle.aspx
  4. Information on parking and other services is available for visitors at this : https://www.nih.gov/about-nih/visitor-information
  5. According to the parking website (https://www.nih.gov/about-nih/visitor-information/parking): Visitor parking is extremely difficult to find at NIH, so if at all possible, take public transportation. There is a Metro station on the NIH campus with shuttle bus service to the main buildings.Short-term, metered parking and long term, attendant-controlled parking are available to visitors at a cost of $2 per hour for the first three hours or $12 per day. There is free, validated parking for patients and visitors to patients in the Clinical Center.
  6. Uber/Lyfts are fairly cheap from nearby hotels, but you would need to let them know before hand (via CALL OR TEXT) that the NIH is on FEDERAL GROUND and requires FEDERAL SECURITY INSPECTION (like a mini-airport security inspection). We’ve had to be vigilant about this and inform them beforehand just so that they don’t leave us stranded at security.
  7. CAFETERIA: This is the link to the maps and locations of the Cafeteria’s in Building 10. They are very easy to get to and have a number of options (most of which are healthy). However, during the lunch rush it can get quite busy in both the main cafeteria located on B1 and the smaller cafeteria located on the 2nd floor through any elevators (North, Central, South). The cafeterias also offer microwaves for those who wish to bring food from home and save a pretty buck as they can be expensive. If you’d like further information on food, please give me a holler, otherwise check this page: https://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/food/Pages/index.aspx.
